“Embrace” by Nicole Hoschke. Oil paint, 35” x 48”.
“I’m trying to capture and represent an experience where my senses are heightened, and I see another as extraordinary; where life seems boundless, in all its beauty and chaos,” says Artexpo Studio artist Nicole Hoschke of her work.
Nicole describes herself as a figurative artist interested in conveying the elusive nature of reality. Her work comes from over 20 years of meditating and painting, and has an emotional and luminous quality that conveys an other worldly landscape.

Today's Studio Spotlight is on "Wendy in the Doorway," an oil painting by Artexpo Studio artist Andrea Vardi.

Wendy in the Doorway, Andrea Vardi, oil painting, 24"x18"
Andrea Vardi's oil paintings are resonant with a sense of place:
For the past 15 years I have traveled extensively, particularly in Europe. I love to paint the feeling of the each place... to evoke the colors and shapes of the individual countries and cities, such as the warm ochers and earth tones of a Venice alleyway, or the crisp color of the white stucco buildings of Greece.
Today's Studio Spotlight image seems to be set in Andrea's Iowa hometown rather than a romantic, European locale, but its sense of light and color lend it the intimacy of being in that particular room with the subject.
Andrea graduated with a degree in fine art, and has since taught art and designed jewelry for stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue. (Her jewelry has been featured in Vogue Magazine.) As a painter, Andrea credits craft work for the refined appreciation of fantastic shapes and surface textures in even the most prosaic setting.
Presently I work in both oil and pastels, as well as mixed media, but my goal is always the same: to create an image that has enough interest in it that it keeps the viewer for a long time, and always feels attractive to lure one back to it and enjoy some more.
Andrea's work has been shown at the Teeple Hanson Gallery in Iowa, but is available to collectors via Artexpo Studio in museum-quality giclee prints. You can learn more about Andrea, see some of her other oil paintings and buy prints of her work at her Artexpo Studio page.
