About the Artist
Andre Renard was born in Brussels, Belgium on June 29, 1940, at the outset of World War II. He took to drawing at a very young age, and on his eighth birthday, his parents gave him an easel, a palette, and a box of oil paints. So began his passion for the canvas. By age 17, Andre was intent on a career in architecture. With strong encouragement from his parents, however, Andre shifted his focus to medicine, attending medical school at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, where he graduated in 1966. After spending two years in the Belgian military where he earned the honor of wearing the “Green Beret,” Andre returned to Brussels to open his medical practice. Andre left Belgium in 1970 and traveled with his family to the United States to accept a residency in general and plastic surgery at the University of Florida (Jacksonville). He practiced medicine in Jacksonville for over 20 years, before relocating to the Bradenton / Sarasota area, where he continues to practice as a plastic surgeon. During all of these years of intense medical training, and the many on-call hours and sleepless nights, Andre never abandoned his love for art. His artwork has been prominently featured in medical publications, including on the front covers of the Florida Medical Association Journal. He has also earned awards at local arts shows. Andre Renard currently resides on Anna Maria Island, Florida, with his wife. He has four children and seven grandchildren.
